239/240 - Wednesday afternoon

Despite having been raised in New England, Elizabeth didn't really like snow. It was fine for skiing, say, but she was quite happy staying inside in the warmth and watching the snow from her window.

One might accuse her of hiding, but she'd prefer to call it strategic concealment.

Elizabeth's eyes widened slightly. "They don't know that you're doing this?" she asked. "How are you distracting them?"

"Ow! Hey!" Rodney was leaning back against a wall, clutching his shin. "You kicked me!"

"You deserved it," said Laura.

"Baby," said Lorne.

Carson looked hesitant. "I think they're in a meeting," he said.

"Oh, okay. That would explain it," said Elizabeth. "I wouldn't want you guys to get into trouble over this."

"Oh, I wouldn't worry about that. They're pretty distracted with each other," said Rodney. "Carson could you take a look at this for me? I think she broke my leg."

"I'm sure she didn't, Rodney," said Carson calmly.

Janet flipped a page in her magazine casually. Distracted with each other? She very carefully didn't look over at Elizabeth.

"Of course she did!" exclaimed Rodney. "She's a Marine. She's wearing those boots! She broke my shin! I can't put any weight on it."

"I didn't kick you that hard!" exclaimed Laura.

"You did so!" yelped Rodney. "You did! And when Sheppard's done with his date, I'm going to tell him he needs to put you on report, or whatever the American military does!"

Radek cursed in Czech.

"Date?" repeated Elizabeth weakly.

"We are not supposed to know," said Teyla, looking at Elizabeth with concern.

Janet had given up all pretense of reading her magazine and was torn between glaring at Rodney and staring worriedly at Elizabeth.

"But obviously you all do," said Elizabeth quietly.

Teyla held Elizabeth's gaze as she nodded. "It is not obvious," she said. "Very few people are aware of the situation."

"And some of them are going to be very sorry they said anything," said Carson, eyeing Rodney angrily.

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry," said Rodney, holding up his hands. "Geez. You'd think I'd slipped nuclear secrets to the North Koreans or something."

"You know, Carson, did I ever share my notes on releasing citrus throughout a closed environment in aerosol form?" asked Janet.

"Elizabeth, are you all right?" asked Teyla. "I am sorry that you found out. I did not think it was something you would wish to know."

"I'm fine," said Elizabeth quietly. She forced a smile. "It doesn't matter. Different lives and all that."

Rodney gulped and pointed at Janet. "You're homicidal!"

Janet rolled her eyes.

"I fear that I would not feel that way were I you," said Teyla. "Nevertheless, it is awkward, and I do apologize."

"Thank you, Teyla," said Elizabeth quietly. She shook her head. "Rodney, leave my.. .roommate alone."

Janet glanced down at her watch. "It's almost time for dinner, Liz," she said. "I can send you those notes any time, Carson."

"Don't tempt me," muttered Carson.

Elizabeth smiled slightly. "She's good at tempting," she said innocently.

Janet coughed. "Dinner?" she asked, wheezing slightly.

Teyla was glancing between Janet and Elizabeth, a curious look on her face. "I believe it is time that we leave Janet and Elizabeth alone," she said. "We will be able to speak with Elizabeth more often in the future, should we wish."

"I'd like that," said Elizabeth, glancing between Janet and Teyla and deliberately not saying which comment she was replying to.

"Are we gonna make Rodney apologize?" asked Cadman quietly.

"I say we wait and then jump him when we hang up," muttered Lorne.

Janet pretended she hadn't heard that, but she couldn't keep from cracking a grin.

Teyla nodded slowly. "I had thought that you would say that, Elizabeth," she said. "Be well."

Elizabeth smiled, and slowly inclined her head towards Teyla. "And yourself," she said.

Everyone else zomg, don't want to play them all out waved goodbye and wished Elizabeth their best, before Rodney ended the connection.
