239/240 - Wednesday afternoon

Despite having been raised in New England, Elizabeth didn't really like snow. It was fine for skiing, say, but she was quite happy staying inside in the warmth and watching the snow from her window.

One might accuse her of hiding, but she'd prefer to call it strategic concealment.

"Just about everyone, lass," said Carson, shoving in between Ronon and Teyla and grinning at her. "Had to leave someone to man the fort. I see you're comfortably ensconced at your school for now. Tell me you're planning on celebrating your birthday."

"Uh," began Elizabeth sheepishly. "Depends on what you mean by celebrate?"

"We're staying in and having dinner here," Janet said, looking up from her magazine. "There's a cake in the fridge."

"Shouldn't you be going out with friends instead?" asked Carson, looking worried.

Elizabeth smiled softly. "I'm spending it with my best friend and cake," she said. "I'm really not complaining."

"If you're certain, Elizabeth," said Carson.

Janet grinned over at Elizabeth. "Best friend?" she asked, laying her head down on her arm.

Elizabeth returned the grin. "Come on; who else is in contention for that particular honor?" she asked.

"I'm not sure," said Janet thoughtfully. "Maybe Parker? D'Anna?"

"Both close, but not as close as you," said Elizabeth, smiling.

"Well, I am special," agreed Janet, giggling.

Carson cleared his throat.

"Sorry, Carson," said Elizabeth, still beaming as she turned back to face the webcam.

"That's quite all right," said Carson. "So how are things going for you there? Everything nice and quiet?"

"Well, as quiet as it gets here at least," said Elizabeth.

"I have to admit, it doesn't sound like a normal type of high school," admitted Carson.

Elizabeth laughed. "Oh, it's definitely not normal," she said.

"So tell me what it's like, then," said Carson.

"Oh, God," sighed Elizabeth, leaning back on the bed. "It's beautiful, and weird and most of it has to be seen to be believed."

"You've talked about some of it before," said Kate, sliding around Carson and standing in the screen with him. "Are you ready to talk about it a little more? This time as friends, maybe?"

"Hey, Kate," said Elizabeth, smiling softly. "I still don't really know what you want me to say. That this place is crazy, but it's helping me keep my sanity?"

"I don't have anything that I want you to say, except maybe how you feel," said Kate, smiling at Elizabeth. "But I can't imagine an ordinary high school would work out very well."

Janet snorted. Kate tactfully ignored her.

"You think?" asked Elizabeth, the sarcasm evident in her voice.

Kate chuckled. "And now I don't know what you want me to say," she said.

"I'm sure you can find something," said Elizabeth.

"I can always find something," said Kate. She smiled, the emotion in her eyes masked. "I'll let you chat with everyone else."

"Who else is there?" asked Elizabeth eagerly.

"Laura Cadman--" A huffing, Rodney-like exclamation of disgust could be heard from off to the left of the viewscreen. "--and Major Lorne are supposed to be here." Kate glanced at her watch. "They're just running a bit late."
