239/240 - Wednesday afternoon

Despite having been raised in New England, Elizabeth didn't really like snow. It was fine for skiing, say, but she was quite happy staying inside in the warmth and watching the snow from her window.

One might accuse her of hiding, but she'd prefer to call it strategic concealment.

After cheerleading practice, Janet came back to the room, unlocked the door, and dropped everything in a heap. "Hey," she said to Elizabeth, slightly breathlessly.

Elizabeth looked across from the window and smiled. "Hey," she said.

"How's it going?" asked Janet, smiling happily at Elizabeth as she came over to stand next to her.

"Quietly," said Elizabeth, leaning across to kiss Janet 'hello'.

"Quietly is good," said Janet, wrapping her arms around Elizabeth. "Happy birthday, Liz."

Elizabeth smiled slightly shyly as she cuddled close to Janet. "Thanks, honey," she murmured.

"After you managed to remember my birthday, how was I going to forget yours?" asked Janet. "Did you want to go out to dinner tonight?"

"I hadn't really thought about it," admitted Elizabeth quietly.

"We can have a quiet night inside if that's what you want," said Janet, leaning forward and kissing Elizabeth's cheek. "I know I didn't want to go out for my birthday either."

"Staying in sounds like a good idea to me," said Elizabeth.

"Then we'll stay in," said Janet firmly. "We could just slip into bed and never leave it."

Elizabeth smiled. "Mmm, that sounds good," she murmured.

"It sounds perfect," said Janet. She let go of Elizabeth regretfully and went to rummage in her nightstand. "Open your present, first, okay?" She held out a gold paper-wrapped box.

Elizabeth carefully unwrapped the paper and opened the box. "Honey, it's beautiful," she said softly. "Thank you."

"You always wear white to formals," said Janet, blushing faintly. "I thought it would look nice with the dresses."

"Thank you," repeated Elizabeth, leaning across to softly kiss Janet.

After a moment, Janet tugged on Elizabeth's hand. "Come on, Liz," she murmured. "Let's go lay down and cuddle. I'm a little tired."

"That sounds good to me," said Elizabeth, smiling as she squeezed Janet's hand and moved away from the window.

Janet backed up toward her bed, pulling Elizabeth along with her. "Have you left the room yet today?"

"Course I have," said Elizabeth. "I had class."

"Are you hiding from the world today?" asked Janet, grinning. She tugged Elizabeth down on the bed with her.

"Not.... hiding," said Elizabeth, smiling as she gracefully fell next to Janet.

"Then what have you been doing?" asked Janet, laughing as she turned to face Elizabeth.

Janet laughed. "Is that what they're calling it these days?" she asked.
