239/240 - Wednesday afternoon

Despite having been raised in New England, Elizabeth didn't really like snow. It was fine for skiing, say, but she was quite happy staying inside in the warmth and watching the snow from her window.

One might accuse her of hiding, but she'd prefer to call it strategic concealment.

Janet dove for her pants, kicking her panties under the bed. "I might make an exception for him."

"Did you hear that, Rodney?" asked Elizabeth, glancing around frantically.

Rodney gulped. "I always knew she was a homicidal maniac," he said. "I'll be nice!"

"Do you even know the meaning of the word?" asked Elizabeth.

A different voice huffed indignantly. "Rodney never knows how to be nice."

Elizabeth laughed softly. "Radek? How are you? This is a nice surprise."

Janet flopped down onto the bed with a magazine and waved in the direction of her laptop.

"Everything is very good, Elizabeth," said Radek. "Though Rodney is muttering awful things about your roommate, but you know Rodney. He mutters awful things about everyone. Tell me how you have been."

"Oh, you know," said Elizabeth. "Classes, translation work, college applications. A few invasions of the school, but pretty much just high school all over again."

"Your school keeps getting invaded?" There was a worried note in Radek's voice. "I thought Earth was supposed to be safe. But translation work should keep you busier than high school classes."

"Yeah, well, this place is a little out of the ordinary," said Elizabeth.

"I am discovering that," said Radek. "Carson is muttering something about little redheaded terrors and that Wraith plague."

Janet snorted. "I heard that," she said, not looking up from her magazine.

The screen of Janet's monitor lit up. "Ah, there we are," said Rodney. "We have a connection. We've rigged up a private radio channel for this call."

"Rodney, shut up and turn on the camera so that Elizabeth can see us," said Radek. "Is my turn to say hello."

"Does that mean I can put the phone down?" asked Elizabeth, amusement in her voice.

"Yes, yes, you can put the phone down," said Rodney impatiently. "Could you have a harder computer to hack into?"

"Rodney," said Radek warningly. "I will cut off your headset if you do not shut up. Elizabeth was telling me about her translation work."

"Didn't Sam do the security on your laptop?" Elizabeth asked Janet innocently.

"This summer, when I was in Colorado, yes," said Janet, smirking. "She was telling me that she's been working on some new protocols she wanted to test out, though."

"Oh, isn't that just like Sam to--" said McKay, sighing. A burst of static came over the computer.

"There," said Radek, looking satisfied as he moved into view on the monitor. "Rodney will be rejoining us when he learns to shut up and play nicely."

Elizabeth smiled and waved. "Hello, Radek."

Radek's eyes lit up and he smiled at Elizabeth. "You are looking well, Elizabeth. What colleges did you apply to? I would be happy to write a letter for any college in my homeland, though I do not know if you wish to travel that far."

"Oh, Harvard, Yale, NYU... the usual suspects," said Elizabeth, laughing slightly.

"This does not surprise me," said Radek, nodding. "You already know more than they can teach you, I am sure."

"In some courses, yes," said Elizabeth. "It just means that I'll have to take more of others."

"And here I thought you would be perfect at everything," said Radek.

Somewhere in the background, a suspiciously Rodney-like voice could be heard grumbling about kissing ass.

"Oh, but I am," laughed Elizabeth, winking. "Just perfection requires more effort in some areas than others."

"Stop hogging the camera," said a gruff voice. A dark arm came into view and nudged Radek. "Everyone needs a turn to say hi."

"Ronon!" exclaimed Elizabeth delightedly. "What are you on Earth for?"

Ronon looked awkward and scratched at the back of his neck. "Uh, we're actually on Atlantis right now. We're not supposed to be dialing in, but McKay said we wouldn't get caught."

"Thor called me from his ship once," offered Janet.
