239/240 - Friday evening

Elizabeth returned to her room happily ladden down with books. Lots and lots of books.

She'd also grabbed the post on the way up, and idly wondered what Janet had ordered from Logitech. She dropped the box on the bed and moved to the bookshelves, ready to reorder them.

"You don't think I'm upset, do you?" asked Janet.

Elizabeth bit her lip and looked across at Janet shyly. "I wasn't too sure," she admitted.

"Of course I'm not," said Janet, reaching over to hug Liz. "I know we don't generally agree about the military, hon, but just because I disagree doesn't mean you don't make some very good points."

Elizabeth wrapped her arms around Janet in return, leaning into the embrace. "That's good," she said. "I've always had the military point of view when I was working on these things, thanks to Dad and Nick."

"There are good officers and there are bad officers," said Janet, rubbing Liz's back reassuringly before letting go and leaning back. "And officers that forget they're supposed to be soldiers before they're politicians."

Elizabeth nodded. "It's not the military's fault that we end up in wars; they just go where they're told. I get that, even though I knew plenty of people who didn't," she said. She grinned slightly. "Who knows what my next piece will be on? Give me a political issue and I can respond as needed!"

"That's because you're the good kind of politician," said Janet. She pursed her lips. "You're going to be hopeless, aren't you? The output of Russian profanity in this room is going to triple."

"I could add French?" Elizabeth offered tentitively. She stretched slightly, straightening her back. "And I won't be working to as strict a deadline as this piece so it shouldn't be too bad."

"Liz." Janet gave her a look. "I treated injured soldiers. I treated injured Marines. Trust me, a little profanity's not going to bother me. Though maybe I should learn how to swear in Russian so I know what you're saying." Janet nodded. "Are you publishing it under your own name?"

"I'll teach you Russian," Elizabeth offered, smiling. She nodded. "Yeah, because I can. Admittedly, they think it's her, but at least it'll now appear that I haven't dropped off the face of the earth! I've got a PO box in DC that's automatically forwarding here."

"Maybe just start with the profanity," said Janet. "I have enough on my plate from Classics." She nodded along. "I'm sure you and she can work something out. She was nice."

"But you're not doing classics at the moment," Elizabeth pointed out, grinning. "I am nice, yes. Although I still can't believe that she was at the SGC at the same time as you were!"

"I was thinking of studying it on my own," admitted Janet. "Do you think English will develop language for talking about clones one of these days?" asked Janet, slightly exasperated. "You can blame McKay for that one."

"I can help with the Latin part," Elizabeth offered. "It would be appreciated if it would. And I always blame McKay!"

"The Latin is what I'm best at, but I could use the help practicing," said Janet. "It's apparently inflexible with its concepts of time, too. Daniel gets frustrated. Lingustics modding omg! That's because McKay's an ass."

"Anytime, you know that," Elizabeth said with a smile. "Just as long as I don't confuse myself with Ancient, it'll all be fine." She nodded. "He is. An absolutely idiotic ass."

"I do. Thanks." Janet glanced at her class notes and books. "I think I've got Ancient on my list of languages to learn. Daniel compiled a dictionary." She snickered. "Are you ever going to forgive him for turning you into a teenager?"

"He did? Really?" Elizabeth asked curiously, her eyes sparkling. She grinned. "If it was anyone else, I would because being like this meant that I met you," she admitted.

"We could get it out of his apartment and photocopy it. I'm sure he wouldn't--okay, he would mind, but he'll forgive us." Janet blushed faintly. "Oh. I am glad we're both here."

"That sounds like a cunning plan," Elizabeth nodded, grinning. She reached out an arm towards Janet, shuffling even closer. "Me too."

"I've got a key. I generally treat his place like my own anyway," she said. Janet snuggled into Liz's arm. "I wasn't doing so well before I came here."

Elizabeth trailed her fingertips gently down Janet's arm. "Weren't we going to take advantage of his bathtub one day?" she asked innocently. She hugged Janet closer. "Would the not doing well include the locking of the cheerleaders in the locker rooms?"

Janet shivered. "We were, weren't we?" she said, equally innocently. Janet nodded. "You think I'm cranky now, you should've seen me then. They did kind of deserve it, though."

"Mmm, yep," Elizabeth nodded, continuing to move her hand up and down Janet's arm. "I'm sure they did, dear."

"We'll have to do that some time. Proably soon." Janet leaned her head on Liz's shoulder. "I still have issues. And I know you noticed the nightmares."
