Elizabeth was working on her dream journal.

If by working, you meant, sitting staring at a blank page wondering what calamities were currently befalling her the city.

She had a desire to get drunk. Very drunk.

After all that time, wishing that she could remember what had happened to her during that time, she now wanted to forget again.

Even if it was just for a night.

Charlie knocked at the door. "Liz? You in?"

"Yeah, hang on a moment." Closing the book, she uncrossed her legs, clambered over the bed and opened the door.

"Hey, there." She tried to smile up at him.

"Hey. I brought cheesecake." He offered it to her feebly. He hadn't been around for her this week as much as he would have liked and the cheesecake was a shallow attempt at apology. Plus it had the added bonus of maybe cheering her up a little. "Can I come in?"

Elizabeth nodded, and moved out of the way of the door so he could come in. Her arms wrapped around herself.

He took the hint and set the cheesecake in the fridge for later. He then turned around and slowly approached Elizabeth. "How's it going?"

Lamest. Line. Ever.

Elizabeth tried to laugh, but it came out more as a sob. She all but threw herself into his arms. "Not too great. Can you tell?"

He hugged her tightly to him and clenched his jaw. He hated this. He hated not being able to make it better. All he could do was tell her it'd be okay when it was clear that it wasn't okay and that the people who were supposed to be helping her weren't.

"A little," Charlie admitted. His voice was a little more gravelly than usual. "Did you find out what you wanted to find out?"

"More than I wanted to find out," Elizabeth hiccuped, her voice slightly muffled. Her voice breaking, she told him of the dream she'd had, and about what they had done to her.

Kawalsky's stomach felt like it was sinking with each passing moment as she told him. At first, he didn't know why he was feeling like this. He'd seen this happen to people and by this stage in his life, it didn't even make him flinch anymore. But this wasn't it happening to a random person. This was Liz telling him that she felt this. Whether it was real or not, and this was something with such vivid detail that it had to be, she remembered feeling it.

He didn't let go of her, but he was quiet for a long time before speaking. "What are they doing about it?"

"They didn't tell me. Apparently," her voice twisted with anger, "the fact that I'm in the body of a teenager means that I have no right to know. They said that they would contact Atlantis and the Dedaelus, but until they had proof, then they couldn't do anything about The Trust."

That wasn't good enough.

"We'll find out." He stroked her hair. "We'll find out what they're doing. They won't get away with it, I promise."

Elizabeth nodded, hiccuping slightly. "Thank you," she said quietly. She pulled away slightly to scrub at her wet eyes. "Um. You're the only one I've told so far. I'll probably tell the others tomorrow, so if you could not mention it to them, please."

"I wouldn't anyway." He brushed her hair away from her eyes. "Anything we talk about stays just with us." He kept a pretty good straight face, but his anger was bubbling just below the surface. "Do you want me to stay with you tonight?"

She nodded. "I didn't think you would, but I just wanted to make sure, y'know?"

Elizabeth nodded again. "Yes, please," she whispered. She didn't think that his presence was going to be enough to keep the nightmares at bay though.

He nodded. "I'll stay. I'm not going anywhere."

She nodded. "Thank you."
