Elizabeth moved quietly out of bed, and headed across to the window.

Um. Snow.

A fair amount of snow.

Not running this morning then.

She shivered just looking at it.

And decided to curl back under the covers.

Janet waved at Liz from under her covers. "I have a lot of warm clothing. But there's too much cold air between me and the closet." She pouted at the snow blowing outside the window.

"I'm staying in bed for as long as possible today," Elizabeth nodded, wrapping herself up in the covers. "It looks nasty out there."

Janet turned--slowly--on her side and settled herself as comfortably as she could, her head pillowed on her arm. "The only thing I have to do today is visit Vala," she said. "Though I might go to our TA meeting if I get bored enough. I hate winter." She glanced dubiously at the window. "This is about as bad as a Colorado winter too."

"US Government, TA meeting, Student Council meeting, Psych make-up session," Elizabeth said, counting it down on her fingers. "And this weather? I just hope it doesn't rival Antarctica!"

"You have too much to do for a Friday," said Janet. "Are you ever going to take a minute and relax? Of course, look at me. I've been relaxing all week and I'm bored out of my skull. Did you ever see any blizzards in Antarctica? How bad were they."

Janet eyed Liz's bed. Two people could keep much warmer under the covers.

Elizabeth snickered. "Well, the psych's a one off, the TA meeting, well... not exactly taxing and the other two are fine," she said. "We had several. It was just a case of batten down the hatches, and hope Rodney didn't eat everything before it was safe for the transports to come out again!"

"Dr. Pierson's easy to work for," said Janet. "And generally interesting. So how many people stocked everything they could with citrus? I'm guessing that lemon chicken was the new favorite MRE." She threw back the covers, winced at the cold, and slipped under the covers of Liz's bed. I'm going to godmod your bed now. Hah! She grinned mischieviously. "There. It's going to be easier to talk and stay warm this way." Then she started shifting around, trying to make sure her ribs didn't ache.

"I've noticed that," Elizabeth grinned. "And you've totally got him wrapped around your little finger!"

She laughed. "I think we all learnt to keep a few MREs in reserve," she said. "We left the lemon chicken in the mess. Which Rodney really didn't appreciate."

ZOMG how dare you?! Elizabeth snickered. "You okay there?"

"I do, don't I?" asked Janet, smirking. "It's my sparkling personality. Also, I think he likes being bossed around."

Janet grinned. "I can imagine he didn't appreciate it rather vocally. Poor Rodney." She didn't sound too sympathetic at all. Funny that.

*sticks tongue out at you* "Much better," said Janet. "Don't you think? Now we don't have to shout across the room."

OOC: Oh, no! *sobs forlornly*

Elizabeth snickered. "Well, with both of us, he won't have a problem with that," she said.

She nodded. "You would imagine correctly. The really annoying thing is that he never figured out that we would never really let him starve to death.

"Oh definitely. But if your feet are cold, keep them away from me!"

"You're bossy?" asked Janet, her eyes wide. "No!"

"I think he was a little too neurotic," said Janet. "Because he actually did well for you guys scientifically, didn't he?"

Janet laughed. "I guess we'll never know until we try, will we?" she asked. And then she stuck her feet on Liz's.

Elizabeth stuck her tongue out at Janet. "Hush you. You're a fine one to talk!"

She growled. "Mostly. Although if I were to list his screw-ups, we'd be here all day."

Elizabeth squealed, and quickly moved her feet away. "Yes, they are cold!"

Janet laughed. "That's why I'm saying something. I know what I'm talking about!"

"In bed, out of the cold, with you all day?" asked Janet. "Start listing."

"Well, it's cold out there!" exclaimed Janet, giggling. "I figured that we could warm up better this way."

Elizabeth giggled. "Oh, if only that could be the case. But I really have to get across to school today," she sighed. "But I'm going to bet that it won't be much better this weekend and it'll be a blanket and pillow fort!"

"Have you heard of socks?" Elizabeth protested. "I'm all for warming up with you, but not if the rest of you's as cold as your feet!"

"I'll bet it stays frigid all weekend," said Janet. She pouted. "Fine. Go and be responsible. I'll keep your bed warm while you're gone."

"I kicked them off sometime during the night!" exclaimed Janet. "In my sleep! And no, the rest of me is not as cold as my feet. Want to find out for yourself?"

"I think so too," Elizabeth sighed. "I was supposed to be done with weather like this."

She laughed. "Well, that gives me something to look forward to whilst I'm out there at least."

Elizabeth hesitated. "What about your ribs?"

"It's better than Antarctica, right?" asked Janet. "I mean, it has to be!"

"You may see me for our TA meeting with Dr. Pierson," said Janet. "If I get stir-crazy enough."

Janet pouted. "They hurt," she said. "But they hurt when I take a deep breath. I hate being injured."

"Well, yeah. Better accommodation, better food, better company," Elizabeth replied, grinning. "And this blizzard is a freak occurance, and not a regular one thankfully."

She nodded. "So I'll probably see you then!"

"I can imagine," Elizabeth said sympathetically. "I just don't want to make them hurt you more."

"The food is better here?" asked Janet, frowning. "I've seen the cafeteria. But the winter has been nice and mild before this weekend, thankfully."

"I know." Janet sighed. "I hate bruised ribs. They take four to six weeks to heal, did you know that? And it's not like you're going to make them hurt me more. Trust me." I did that just fine during the weekend with the snow monsters!

"How often have you seen me in the cafeteria though?" Elizabeth asked. "Believe it or not, it's very hard to get groceries delivered to a top secret research facility in Antarctica."

"I knew they took a while," she replied, shifting closer to Janet. "You poor thing."

"I wouldn't know. I've only gone in once, then turned around and walked out," said Janet. "I think. I don't think it'd be quite as hard to get groceries delivered to a top-secret facility in Colorado Springs, but honestly, I didn't want to give General Hammond a heart attack."

"I'm in pain," said Janet, pouting just a little. "It's just not fun."

"That puts us on a par then," Elizabeth replied. "And I never tried anything like that when I was at the SGC. Although I was in charge, so I might have got away with it."

"Oh, hon. Is there anything I can do to help?"

"You know, you could probably have gotten away with a lot of things there," said Janet. "Colonel O'Neill wasn't exactly a stickler for the rules. Though I'd imagine the fact that you weren't General Hammond engendered a great deal of hostility among the staff."

Janet grinned. "I'd imagine you could figure something out..." she said suggestively.

"Well, I wasn't exactly there for that long and the time I was there, there was a lot of stuff to deal with," Elizabeth replied, shrugging slightly. "They were... civil. Mostly. The fact that I started my career as an activist lobbying against government spending on the military really didn't help though."

She grinned. "I could make you coffee?"

Janet pouted again. "That wasn't really what I had in mind."

Elizabeth propped her head up on her elbow, looking serious. "Our defense expenditure is estimated to be greater than the next twelve largest national military budgets combined," she said. "The only thing we spend more on is social security. We use the military to interfer in countries where are values are compromised, believing that we're doing the best for those people. But what we do is remove one dictator for another, and then we have to involve ourselves again, in a self-perpetuating cycle.

I understand that as a country we need to defend ourselves, but we do not need, nor do we have the right to police the world. My father nearly died in Vietnam, and almost sixy-thousand weren't as lucky as him."

Elizabeth grinned, and leant in closer. "What was it you had in mind then?" she asked softly.

"Oh, God, I've started a political lecture," groaned Janet. "I've heard it before, you know. But we're also currently engaged in a war offplanet against an enemy that's better-armed and more technologically advanced than we are, and we've been doing it largely without international support, and we've been funding technological development and research based on the discoveries we've made offworld--not all of which have military applications. We need a large military budget. I totally agree with Liz OOC too. *flails at finding self arguing against own viewpoint* I could point out a good dozen medical advances alone that we never would have come up with unless we'd gone offworld."

"You're a tease," she said, slipping one hand up and into Liz's hair, then kissing her softly.

"When I was campaigning, we weren't at war," Elizabeth pointed out. "At least, not offplanet. I know now that billions go into the SGC and understand those costs."

Elizabeth smiled against Janet's mouth as she parted her lips and deepened the kiss. "But you love me anyway."
