239/240 - Presents

Well, she's managed to give some of them out. She'd see what more she'd manage today, and then she'd do the rest on January 7th.

Even looking at the brightly wrapped presents, she still doesn't really feel that Christmasy. She wonders if it's the place, or the circumstances or both.

She'll go to Midnight Mass later. See if that makes any difference.

Anders has stuff to do today, but he does manage to drop by 239/240 long enough to knock on the door and hope someone is around to pick up the couple of packages he has to give out.

Elizabeth opens the door and smiles. "Hey, Anders. Come on in."

"Hey, you're here!" Anders steps in and unshoulders the bag he's carrying. "Cool. I had something for you, actually. Hadn't seen you out with the morning run gang in a while, and it's kinda too cold for that right now anyway, but I figured once it warmed up enough to go running again, you might get some use outta these."

He hands her a red paper-wrapped box with a gold stick-on bow. "You staying over the break, then?"

"Cool," Elizabeth grins as she rips off the paper. "I'll most certainly get some use out of them. Hold on a sec..." She drops her gift on her bed, and kneels under it. "Daniel... Rory... Parker... Ah. here we go," she says, pulling out a small gold paper-wrapped box. "Apparently great minds think similarly!"

Aeryn comes back to the room after spending some time at the gym, greeting Elizabeth with a hello.

"Hey, Aeryn," Elizabeth smiles, heading under her bed again. "I've got presents for you." She pulls out a bottle gift bag and another wrapped package.

"Oh, thank you," Aeryn says. "Did you get yours? I wasn't sure when I would see anyone."

The vodka gets an embarrassed grin out of her, and the book makes her say "This is..." before trailing off and flipping through the pictures. The photographs do make it look good.

"I did, thank you," Elizabeth smiles. "They're both great."

She laughs slightly. "We will get you to see the real thing," she says. "Spring's a great time of year, with the cherry blossom and everything."

"We'll have to work out another field trip like Chicago," Aeryn says, finally forcing herself to look up from the book.

Elizabeth nods, bouncing slightly on her bed. "Yeah, it should be really easy to wrangle. And Janet can probably persuade Professor Pierson to chaperone again. Or if not, I'll ask Professor Cregg. It'll be fun!"

"I'm looking forward to it," Aeryn says, automatically dismissing the 'I hope I'm here for it' thought that enters her mind. She's getting good at that. "You're not going home at all for Chrissmass?"

Elizabeth looks away briefly, as she shakes her head. "No, I'm not," she replies. "I can't, so..." She sighs. "Just staying here. Sam and I are going to go to the beach-thing in the Danger Shop, and just relax. Or at least, that's the plan."

She hadn't meant to bring up anything bad, so she tries to change the subject a little. "I haven't seen anyone around," Aeryn says. "I thought more people would be staying."

Elizabeth shrugs. "Well, I guess some people are taking advantage of the break to head away somewhere. I considered it myself, but just didn't get around to booking a flight or anything in the end."

She grins. "I'm just gonna kick back and relax, I think," Elizabeth nods. "I've not had the chance to really do that in a while, so hopefully things will be quiet and we won't get attacked by killer snowmen or anything!"
